The Institute of Art History at the University of Zurich is offering a Lecturer position for provenance research as of August 1, 2024.
The candidate for the role of Lecturer in Provenance Research will establish a focus on the history of the art trade in Switzerland on the one hand and the ongoing methodical development of the field of provenance research on the other (with a particular focus on knowledge linked in databases). Cooperations with research institutes in Switzerland and abroad would be preferable, as would the creation and expansion of research infrastructures and research groups in Switzerland. Apart from the focus on the Swiss art market, the conceptual orientation could also cover the historical periods before, during and after National Socialism as well as art historical aspects of colonial history (18th to 21st centuries). Teaching is expected to cover 3 hours teaching pw over the course of the full academic year.
The researcher employed as Lecturer in Provenance Research will have an international network and a completed, published doctoral dissertation with a relevant subject as well as a specialization in the field of provenance research. He/she will anchor third party funding and research groups at UZH. Experience in raising third party funding and conducting independent research projects is expected, as are database and IT skills. Fluent German, English and French are desirable.
The Institute for Art History warrants academic independence of the role in research and teaching, in building and supervising a team and in the distribution of financial means. The Institute for Art History offers financial and administrative assistance in the application phase for research projects and the implementation of infrastructure. The future colleague will be welcomed by the institute's team in a transdisciplinary faculty environment focused on topical issues.
Full-time employment (100%), payment according to cantonal guidelines.
